Eminem - Curtain Call: The Hits
Review Date: 28 December 2005
The news that Eminem was to retire was treated by some members of the hip-hop community as a massive international tragedy. But look at it this way - think of all the rappers who really should have called it a day before they became fat, lazy and more interested in boasting about their bank balances than making decent records. As obligatory Greatest Hits collections go, this one is a bit unsatisfying - the obvious songs are all present and correct, but they're in a strange order and some of the best album tracks are not included. Fans will want Curtain Call anyway for the three new offerings, which between them manage to capture most aspects of Eminem's personality - toilet humour, radical politics and a huge dollop of self-mythologising. Not a bad way to leave the stage.
