Embrace - Fireworks: The Singles 1997-2002
Review Date: 10 April 2002
Hard to believe now, but there was a time back in the late 90s when every new indie band on the block had their sights firmly set on being the new Oasis. Such was the case with Huddersfield's Embrace, who boasted better credentials than most: songwriting brothers (Danny and Richard McNamara), unbelievably arrogant interviews and a set of blustery rock epics that went some way to silencing their early critics. While their three albums since then haven't exactly set the world on fire, Embrace have certainly notched up a respectable set of singles, all of which are gathered here on this worthy (if somewhat premature) compilation. They'll never go down in history as a great band - but if you must own one of their albums, this is definitely the one to get.
