Elton John's credibility has sunk to rock bottom over the past few years but his stage performance is still regarded as one of the most spectacular around. This live album, recorded in Madison Square Gardens last October, shows that he hasn't lost it as a performer and is wisely built around his back catalogue of hits including I'm Still Standing, Rocket Man and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. Unfortunately the album is all but ruined by John's inability to resist the urge to drag on some of his showbiz pals. Self-regarding performances from Ronan Keating, Bryan Adams and Mary J Blige all contribute to the impression of a man who has lost touch with what it was that made him so popular in the first place.
