Eddi Reader - Simple Soul

 rated 2

Review Date: 05 February 2001

Scottish singer Eddi Reader has always been popular with those who like their folk music gentle and unthreatening. This latest solo album from the former leader of Fairground Attraction is almost indistinguishable from her previous four - a succession of melancholy songs about life's little frustrations, embellished with acoustic guitar and unobtrusive harmonicas. It should satisfy her legions of fans but the unconverted will find it just a bit too tasteful, and for that reason ultimately forgettable.
