Delta Goodrem - Mistaken Identity

 rated 4

Review Date: 22 December 2004

Delta Goodrem may have started out as a Neighbours actress, but no-one could accuse her of having had a charmed life. Shortly after being dumped by her boyfriend, tennis star Mark Philipoussis, she was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma - a dangerous cancer that took two years to heal. So, she's got a big story to tell, and on her second album she's drafted in some big songwriting guns to help her tell it. Take That's Gary Barlow, Robbie Williams's Guy Chambers and veteran star Cathy Dennis all have credits here, while our own Brian McFadden pops up on the heartfelt duet 'Almost Here' (adding fuel to the rumours about the pair). Mistaken Identity is mostly made up of glossy ballads, which may not be subtle but certainly pack an emotional punch. It's all down to Goodrem's strikingly raw vocals - when she gives thanks for still being alive, you can tell she really means it. A powerful album.
