David Gray - Lost Songs 95-98

Review Date: 29 June 2000

The success of White Ladder has put David Gray squarely in the spotlight but it seems that his many Irish fans will have to wait a while for the official follow up. In the meantime they can latch on to this, a collection of mainly acoustic songs written in leaner times. It's not quite up there with his best work, several tracks feel rather ponderous and laboured. Still there are a handful of gems (Flame Turns Blue) which show off Gray's best qualities: a truly individual voice with a talent for making the simple seem profound.
