Anyone fed up with cheeky yet wholesome American teenage divas should run for cover now. We're still only halfway through January and already there's a new pretender to Britney's throne, pouting and gyrating her way speedily up the charts. Christina Milian has been training for superstardom since she was three, appearing in stage shows and US TV teen series; recently she's even graduated to writing songs for the likes of Jennifer Lopez. After all that preparation, however, the grim news is that her debut album can only be described as relentlessly ordinary. Light-hearted, energetic R%B pop tunes predominate but apart from a couple of snappy singles in AM To PM and You Make Me laugh, nothing here rises above the average. If Milian really wants to compete with the big girls, she badly needs to spice up her tired formula with some original ideas.
