Derry folk singer Cara Dillon seemed set for stardom back in the mid-90s but some mind-boggling record company wrangles delayed her first album for a full four years. Recorded with her partner Sam Lakeman, it's mostly made up of the traditional ballads she's been singing since childhood such as Black Is The Colour, Donald Of Glencoe and The Maid Of Culmore, with a couple of her own compositions also thrown into the mix. Some might find the arrangements just a little too radio-friendly but on the stripped-down recordings Dillon's graceful, angelic voice can be heard in all its glory. With young stars such as Kate Rusby, Liza Carthy and now Dillon on the scene, the future of folk music looks to be in safe hands.
