Bubba Sparxxx - Dark Days, Bright Nights

 rated 4

Review Date: 27 November 2001

Who says white men can't rap? Whoever they are, they clearly haven't heard Bubba Sparxxx. Rapidly being hailed as the new Eminem, largely on account of his skin colour, this good ol' boy from Georgia has been building quite a profile for himself with his breezy, fluent rapping and unique brand of homespun wisdom. Unlike the bold Marshall Mathers, however, Sparxxx is essentially an easygoing soul whose lyrics revolve around taking pride in your roots, loving your mother and the importance of racial tolerance. Add in the presence of maestro producer Timbaland and his trademark two-step grooves and you've got a fine debut album, breathing some welcome country air into the lungs of a slightly tired-looking genre.
