No-one knows more about the fleeting nature of fame than Nicola and Natalie Appleton. It's only a couple of years since the sisters left All Saints, after all, but already they seem to be far better known for their celebrity boyfriends and party antics than for anything they did with that band. This lack of respect would appear to irk the lippy duo no end, prompting them to record an album of their own which they claim is a determined bid for artistic credibility. Sadly, it doesn't quite come off - Everything's Eventual is polished and professional, but ultimately far too shallow to care much about one way or the other. The problem is, the Appletons have no real musical roots - and it shows as they flit from style to style, tackling rock, techno and hip-hop without ever really sounding convincing in any of them. Lyrically, meanwhile, they fail to understand that the mundane details of their domestic routines are of little interest to anyone outside their immediate family circle. A couple of feisty pop songs perk things up a bit, and Natalie at least shows that she has a perfectly decent voice. But none of this is enough to prevent the growing suspicion that the Appletons have a great future behind them.
