Ani DiFranco - Revelling / Reckoning
Review Date: 29 May 2001
Ani DiFranco supposedly hates being famous - but if she keeps making albums as good as this she may not have much choice in the matter. The songs of this 30-year-old New York singer and guitarist are tough and eloquent, distilled through a production that adds evocative clarinet and trumpet adornments to her primarily acoustic sound. Unlike so many of her contemporaries, DiFranco really has interesting things to say about the modern world, and on this double album she makes her point with greater urgency than she's ever done before. Highly recommended.
