Get the Girls 'Round For Action Breast Cancer in October
29 September 2011 (Interview)
Action Breast Cancer, a programme of the Irish Cancer Society along with Centra, Ireland's leading convenience retailer have launched Get the Girls 'Round campaign in aid of Breast Cancer Awareness Month which takes place throughout October.
For the second year Centra, Ireland's largest convenience retailer is supporting the Get the Girls 'Round campaign which raised over €400,000 last year. Using their nationwide network of 464 stores, Centra is encouraging women all over the country to Get the Girls 'Round whether it's for a night in with your mates to watch X-Factor with the mandatory nibbles or a delicious home cooked meal with your gal pals or a party in your local GAA Club. Get the Girls 'Round is a great way to enjoy time with friends and family while raising funds for breast cancer patients throughout Ireland.
Speaking at the launch, John McCormack, Chief Executive at the Irish Cancer Society said "One in nine Irish women have a chance of developing breast cancer. What tends to be forgotten, is that along with the illness come additional burdens such as financial and psychological problems on the family. Thanks to our partnership with Centra, we can alleviate some of these pressures and continue to provide essential support services through this particularly difficult period in peoples lives."
Commenting at this year's launch, Martin Kelleher, Managing Director,
Centra said, “Centra is delighted to be supporting Action Breast Cancer for the second year running and we are hoping to build on the €400,000 that we raised last year. The tremendous success of this campaign in 2010 demonstrated the enormous support of the cause by women of all age groups who hosted parties and coffee mornings in every town and village across Ireland.
Every year, thousands of families are affected by breast cancer and we are delighted to play a role in helping our retailers to raise awareness and funds to fight the disease and support those directly affected by helping the Irish Cancer Society to provide vital patient services. Get the Girls 'Round is the perfect way for women of all ages to have some fun while supporting a worthy cause".
Women who register for Get the Girls 'Round will receive a registration pack containing a booklet with hints & tips for a great girls night in and vouchers for Centra goodies which can be redeemed in any Centra store nationwide.
To register for Get the Girls 'Round, simply log onto www.facebook.com/getthegirlsroundand then invite your female friends, workmates and family to a get together for a very good cause. Friends are asked to donate the equivalent of what they would have spent on a night out.
