Knitting and Stitching Review

The Knitting and Stitching Show debuted in Dublin in 1995 and this year's show is the biggest to date, reflecting the growing revival of hand crafts in recent years, particularly knitting and crochet. The show is on in the Simmonscourt Pavilion of the RDS which allows more space for the event.

There is more gallery and display space making this element of the show much more significant than in previous years. The classes and work shops are separate to the main area which means they are quieter and more spacious. The aisles are wider and the refreshment stands are in a larger area with more seating than in previous years.

Every type of needle craft you can think of is represented at the show in some form, with plenty for fans of knitting, crochet, quilting, cross-stitch, lace making, embroidery and more. There are also lots of stands selling beads and jewelry making supplies as well as a number of stands with paper crafting materials. For someone looking for a new creative hobby this is the ideal opportunity to explore and experience. There are many workshops running at the show including classes on knitting, spinning, felting, jewelry making and much more. An "Upcycling Academy" running in conjunction with TRAID (Textile Recycling for Aid and International Development), is a highlight of the show. You can drop in and learn how to make an old boring garment into something new and exciting!

This year at the show there is a large exhibition dedicated to Beryl Dean, an ecclesiastical embroiderer with many examples of her work on display. There are also smaller displays and stands by textile artists and craft guilds. The winning quilts from this years Festival of Quilts are on display with a huge variety of texture and colour to enjoy and inspire.

This year's show is well worth a visit and offers plenty for expert crafters and beginners alike, whether you are looking for some unusual materials, to hone your skills or just to be inspired!
