First Fortnight Campus Tour
Launching just this week, First Fortnight (partners of See Change) announced the very exciting news that Republic of Loose will headline its inaugural student tour. For those of you that aren't aware, this tour is part of First Fortnight's bid to challenge mental health prejudice and discrimination and highlight the fact that this remains a prominent issue. Hitting up University College Dublin, Waterford IT and Galway/ Mayo IT, the three-date mental health awareness tour will take place from October 10-12 and tickets are available now to students. (You can purchase yours through your college's student union.)
The First Fortnight event is being staged in association with Union of Students of Ireland (USI), See Change, the National Mental Health Stigma Reduction Partnership, and Suicide or Survive (SOS). Highlighting the issue at hand, the acclaimed RTE documentary series, I See A Darkness will be screened before the Republic of Loose take to the stage on each day of the tour.
I See A Darkness is an intimate portrait of three suicide stories and is produced in partnership with Suicide or Survive. Following the screening, there will be a question and answers session with the makers of the doc and it's participants.
Speaking of their involvement with First Fortnight, Republic of Loose said: "Republic of Loose are glad to support the First Fortnight campaign for challenging mental health prejudice and discrimination. It's an important issue in these hectic times. If you are experiencing symptoms of depression, reach out to a friend or a family member."
First Fortnight is an arts-based mental health awareness project that is held every year in Dublin in mid-January and this is the first year it has staged a student event.
The tour dates are as follows:
Student Bar, UCD, Dublin – October 10
The Ruby Room@ Royal Theatre, Galway/Mayo IT, Castlebar – October 11
The Dome Bar, Waterford IT, Waterford – October 12
