Let's hope they have good training facilities in Gdynia, eh? The Irish football team will be based in the Pomeranian city throughout their (hopefully extended) stay in Poland for the European Championships next summer. Ireland will meet Spain here, just north of Gdansk, in their second group game on 14th June. The other games against Croatia and Italy will be housed a few hundred kilometres south in Poznan.

You'd have to imagine that everyone in the FAI will make an extra effort to ensure that facilities are up to scratch with the Saipan affair still fresh in everyone's minds, 10 years after the fact. Roy Keane is currently out work, what say we send him over to inspect the base? Ireland's most notorious footballer ever famously branded the training pitch as being like a "car park" in Japan and, to be honest, if that somehow allows us the ability to park the team bus in front of the goal when we play defending champions Spain then I'm sure we'd all be just fine with it.

I think we all trust the newly beatified Saint Giovanni to prepare the Irish team as much as humanly possible to take on the rest of Europe next summer. At least that's the plan, right? We have to have a least a little bit of faith in FAI head honcho John Delaney learning from mistakes made in the past. Even if, every time we see him on television, it looks like he spent the previous night sleeping off a hangover in his car.

Now, let's hope they have a muscle-repairing oxygen chamber in which we can safely store Shay Given while he's not out on the pitch..
