Cotton Mary

India, 1950. Local midwife Mary [M Jaffrey] manipulates a new mother, the very English Lily [Scaachi], to improve her social standing. As with all Merchant / Ivory productions, the attention to era, detail and story is exemplary, but as with all Merchant / Ivory productions, the audience is left feeling emotionally alienated from the proceedings.
