Ten Must Have Video Games for Christmas 2012

The video-game section of any store can be a daunting gauntlet for the uninitiated or the unsure, but we here at entertainment.ie we are going to help you find the perfect present for the joypad jockey in your life.
1. ASSASSIN’S CREED 3 (PS3, XBOX 360, PC, Wii U)
The latest entry in Desmond Miles’s on-going quest to prevent the Apocalypse has him going back in time via his ancestor’s memories, embodying Connor - a half-English half-Native American assassin during the American Revolution. A mix of open-world exploring, vicious hand-to-hand combat and fantastic graphics, this is the one of the best games of the year.

2. CALL OF DUTY: BLACK OPS 2 (PS3, XBOX 360, PC, Wii U)
The ninth Call Of Duty game to date, Black Ops 2 puts players into the near future - a new Cold War based on new technology and new, deadlier weapons. To be fair, this isn’t too much different from Black Ops One, but that is no bad thing! New and improved weapons and an updated online multiplayer mode will bring out your addictive side of your personality.
3. DISHONORED (PS3, XBOX 360, PC)
Set in the plague-ridden fictional city of Dunwall, you play Corvo – the Empress’s personal bodyguard, and after her assassination he is accused of her murder. With the entire population looking for blood, you must use your wits, your guns and your newly acquired special powers. An all-star voice cast (Susan Sarandon, Carrie Fisher, Lena Headey, Chloe Grace Moretz) and a hugely compelling story makes this an absolute must-own.
4. FAR CRY 3 (PS3, XBOX 360, PC)
An interesting change of pace from the usual games where you start off as a muscle-bound super-soldier, in Far Cry 3 you start off as nothing more than a tourist who backpacks his way on to the wrong island, and gets sold into slavery. From there you must escape, save your friends and find your way off the island. One of the best villains of the year, a huge island for you to explore, and lots of way to explore it - including para-gliding!
5. FIFA 13 (PS3, PS2, PS VITA, XBOX 360, Wii, Wii U, PC, Mac, iOS, Android, Nintendo DS)
Every year they release a FIFA game, and every year they sell by the bucket-load. They don’t need any kind of promotion, as every soccer fan in the world will most likely be playing this come Christmas morning. All the new players, new jerseys, everything that’s different from FIFA 12...but let’s be honest here, if you love football, you probably already own this game.
6. HALO 4 (XBOX 360)
The Halo series has been a landmark in modern video games, having made billions worth of games and merchandising. Everyone believed the trilogy to be the end of things, but 4 marks the beginning of a new trilogy, with Master Chief encountering an ancient warrior race. Whether or not you’ve played any of the Halo games before, this is still one of the best first-person shooters ever made.

7. HITMAN: ABSOLUTION (PS3, XBOX 360, PC)Once again wearing the black suit of Agent 47, the world’s greatest assassin, Absolution finds the agent with the public having just been made aware that his Agency exists. Under new management, 47 continues being the McGuyver of Murder, as you’re assigned targets and you must find the most efficient way of making it look like an accident. Hugely entertaining and darkly comic.
8. JUST DANCE 4 (PS3, XBOX 360, Wii, Wii U)
Every Christmas party needs a Christmas game, and Just Dance 4 is the one to party to this year. The 44 songs to competitively bop along to range from "Call Me Maybe" to "Jailhouse Rock" to "Super Bass", there is something on here for everyone to get down to. Although it may not be the best game to play straight after Christmas dinner.
9. NEED FOR SPEED: MOST WANTED (PS3, PS VITA, XBOX 360, Wii U, iOS, PC, Android, Kindle)
For the speed-freaks in the house, Most Wanted is this year’s best racing game. Set in an open-world for you to fully enjoy, being relentlessly pursued by local police, all while you partake in illegal races against three other outlaws. Endlessly exciting and frantically fast-paced, this will need split-second reflexes to be properly mastered.
10. THE WALKING DEAD (PS3, XBOX 360, PC, Mac, iOS)
A point-and-click adventure game that focuses more on character development than it does with explosions? Yawn. But this five-part series based on the famous TV show is one of the most engrossing forms of entertainment released this year. Telling the story of a university professor and a convicted felon who try to protect a young girl and bring them all to safety, this game has a more involving story and more interesting characters than most of the films and TV shows released this year.
