An intelligent chop-socky epic, with a variety of storytellers offering a take on the life of samurai warrior Yoshimura (Nakai). The nub of the tale is the clash between family responsibility and a soldier's honour, a clash intended to define a radical shift in Japanese culture during the fall of the Shogun. Excellent stuff.
