Brendan (McDonald) is a shy teacher whose only outlets are old films and singing in a local choir. His life changes radically when he encounters the feisty Trudy (Montgomery) in a Dublin pub, and the pair begin an unlikely romance. When Brendan Met Trudy may be the first original film script from Roddy Doyle, but it loses some cohesion and sparkle in the translation to the big screen. While McDonald and Montgomery acquit themselves well, and Doyle supplies some fine comedic moments, When Brendan Met Trudy appears more like a fine piece of television than a truly rewarding cinematic experience.
