The Chronicles of Narnia

C. S. Lewis's most famous Narnia tale is given the big-budget treatment in this first-rate and superbly realised retelling. Sent to the countryside for their own safety during the Second World War, siblings Edward, Lucy, Susan and Peter amuse themselves in their new abode - the sprawling house of an old professor. It is here, during a game of hide and seek, that Lucy discovers a wardrobe that is the doorway to another world – the magical, snowbound Narnia. What follows is an epic battle between good and evil complete with fantastic creatures, the evil Witch (Tilda Swinton, completely magnificent) and the re-awakened Aslan. This (now) definitive version of The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe is a lavish meeting of reality and magic, single-handedly resurrecting The Chronicles of Narnia for new generations. A great accomplishment.
