After 20 years in a mental hospital, Dennis 'Spider' Cleg (Fiennes) goes to live in a boarding house for recovering schizophrenics. From there he begins to revisit his childhood haunts, and in the process relives his madness all over again. A tough film, albeit scattered with brilliance, Spider suffers from a baffling tendency for deliberate obtuseness.
