Based on Hubert Selby's (Last Exit to Brooklyn) novella, Requiem. Follows a Coney Island mother and son (Burstyn and Leto) as they descend into abusing diet pills and heroin respectively. Director Aronofsky applies the technical bravura he brought to his debut PI and the leads are in fine fettle as they interpret the harrowing material.
