Starring: Tony Montana, Troy Duffy
Troy Duffy has just hit the big time. His first script - which he'll also direct - has been picked up by Hollywood studio boss Harvey Weinstein on a near-million dollar contract. Weinstein has also purchased the bar Duffy worked at as part of the deal, and his band will provide the movie's soundtrack. Troy Duffy is about to mess up the opportunity of a lifetime, and it's all been captured on camera. Things started off so well, you couldn't have written a better story (Troy Duffy didn't). A working-class barman has his script picked up by the most influential studio boss in town. His was the inspirational tale that would give every aspiring young filmmaker a hero, a role model, a pedestal they could one day conceivably reach… if only Troy Duffy wasn't an egotistical maniac intent on alienating every single person around him. Abrasive and confrontational, Troy Duffy is the biggest a*****e you will ever have the displeasure of watching; although there is a perverse pleasure to be had as his dream crumbles, he essentially gets his comeuppance for some disgusting behaviour. He repeatedly badmouths Weinstein, the man who plucked him from obscurity, and countless other Hollywood big-wigs - as well as intimidating his friends and bandmates, refusing to heed their opinions and warnings. It makes for uncomfortable viewing at times, but it's never less than enthralling. Now instead of becoming a hero to the young film-maker, Duffy is a warning; a reason why you should never allow success to go to your head. Watch and cringe.
