This contemporary take on the Bard's meisterwerk offers us Hamlet (Hawke) as a frustrated filmmaker, with the emphasis on whingy angst rather than introspection. Director Almereyda plays inventive games with modern technology but most of the cast seem to think that the words are so good they don't actually need to act them out.
