Interesting low budget Canadian offering that seeks to put a new spin on the werewolf movie. Brigitte (Perkins) and Ginger (Isabelle) are two mutually obsessed sisters, who have been classed as outcasts thanks to their interest in the supernatural. After a dog-like creature attacks Ginger one night, she begins to transform into a werewolf, leaving her sister unsure whether to join or save her. Successfully negotiating most of the clichés associated with the genre with the minimum amount of fuss, Ginger Snaps is a refreshing and perky addition to cannons of horror. More reminiscent of Heavenly Creatures than the Howling, the main preoccupation of director Fawcett seems to be the fate of the girls rather than providing real shocks, and although things come undone in the latter stages, it's still a satisfying excursion.
