It's a 'teen movie', yes; but Birch and Johansson are cynical, scabrous and disaffected teens who impose their own rules on a cheesy, kitschy world. The dialogue is sharp, the humour is cruel, and you also get Buscemi as a weirdo whom Birch develops a crush on. Sparkling stuff.
