Soderbergh is one of the cleverest directors working in mainstream movies today, but here - with films within films, and plays with films within films - it's just too clever-clever to fully engage the audience. In saying that, it's intended as an experimental exercise; and no film featuring Catherine Keener can be considered a waste of time.
