This fictional account of the Edinburgh Comedy Festival by TV director Annie Griffen was filmed on location and consists of an assortment of characters - a backpacker-cum-amateur-playwright, a radio DJ, 2 Irish comedians, a depressed local lady who lets out her house to a troupe of Canadians, a celebrity comedian and his long-suffering PA, and so on. Emotions and egos run high against the backdrop of this beautiful and buzzing city in which the ensemble display varying degrees of sanity, sobriety and dignity. The largely excellent collection of recognizable characters works, mainly because this is a comedy and deep characterisation isn't a necessity. All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable comedy/drama.
