Big Momma's House 2
Director: John Whitesell
Starring: Kate Dennings, Martin Lawrence, Nia Long
Details: US, 99mins, PG.
A follow-up to the outrageously unfunny Big Momma, this sequel feels like a selection of scenes that didn't make it onto the deleted scene option of the DVD release of the first outing - yes, it's that poor. There is nothing here to recommend this to even the most tolerant of comedy lovers or even Martin Lawrence fans. Lawrence, who obviously hasn't learned from Eddie Murphy's poor choice of recent comedies, is resigned to a multitude of "oh, girl" and "Big Mommas". As for the rest of the gags, all the rudimentary jokes are here - big knickers, Sir Mixalot, dogs getting drunk, Baywatch parodies and the horror of being caught in a woman's changing room with a bevy of scantily clad beautiful babes. The writers do make try to make a social commentary on family values but all that is forgotten when Lawrence teaches a class of 7-year-old girls how to grind. Classy!
