A biopic-of-sorts of John Nash (Crowe), a Nobel Prize-winning mathematical genius tortured by internal demons that include schizophrenia and paranoia. While Crowe turns in a strong performance, director Howard invests the material with an upbeat finale; it's difficult not be disturbed by the blatantly Hollywood simplification of what was surely a very complex, disturbed existence.
