Trevor Lock | Bad Ass Cafe

Comedy Feature

02 February 2012 (Comedy Preview)

Words: Robin Murray

Trevor Lock is probably best known for his work with Russell Brand on BBC Radio, where he built up a cult following, telling bizarre meandering stories (including one where, in order for his family to have dinner, he had to climb into a bath and, with his knees either side of a wriggling two-foot pike, strike it repeatedly in the head with a hammer).

Now Dubliners get to see the cuddly comedian in the flesh and witness his weird and wonderful brain at work, as he is performing in entertainment.ie's Comedy Venue of 2011 Anseo on the 15th the Badass Café on the 17th of this month.

While he's also a playwright and actor, Lock's stand-up credentials are impressive, with the Northamptonshire native performing at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival as well as supporting both Stewart Lee and Russell Brand on UK tours.

In other comedy work, he also appeared with Brand and Matt Morgan on the former's Saturday night BBC Radio 2 show, as well as on his Sunday morning show on BB6 Music.

In terms of both his manner and his material, Lock isn't a typical comedian; his persona is polite and earnest, with the comic appearing to only want to share his stories with his audience, rather than making them laugh.0 6-surreal, however, while Noel Fielding, for instance, will set up a wacky scene from the outset, Lock often starts with what seems to be an everyday story before gradually introducing stranger elements.

Never failing to be interesting as well as funny, Lock will bend your mind and, most importantly, leave an impression after you leave. Also, he has an unusual and brilliant way of dealing with hecklers in which he runs with what they say and gives them enough rope to hang themselves!

Trevor Lock plays the Badass Café, Temple Bar, Dublin 2 on the 17th of February.

Show starts at 8pm; tickets cost €12 and can be bought here!
