Howl of the She-Leopard: Dead Cat Bounce
20 January 2012 (Comedy Preview)
Words: David O'Shaughnessy
Howl of the She-Leopard: Dead Cat Bounce in Vicar Street for one night only.
Irish comedy rock sensation, Dead Cat Bounce, are at it again. Returning to the hallowed comedy haven that is Dublin's Vicar Street, the guys are premiering their newest show Howl of the She-Leopard in what is their biggest performance of the year.
Having toured almost non-stop for the last three years, this musically and comically gifted quartet have been nothing but busy, performing to critical acclaim around the world, including and not limited to the renowned Montreal Just For Laughs Festival, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Melbourne International Comedy Festival to name but a few. Throw in slots at major music festivals in Leeds, Reading, Oxegen and Electric Picnic, and supporting The Darkness on their Irish tour, and you begin to see how the demand is building.
2011 was a particularly hectic year for Dead Cat Bounce, touring the comedy & theatre festival circuit both at home and internationally, picking up the People's Choice Award at the Timeout Sydney Comedy Awards, and completing their first feature length film.
It's easy to appreciate the cross genre appeal of Dead Cat Bounce. Mixing up styles ranging from hip-hop slow jams and 80's rock anthems, the group would have numerous fans and probably a few hit records under their belt if they were to go out as a musical group alone. Throwing comedy into the mix just creates a powder keg waiting to explode. Containing all the bravado that comes with being a rock outfit clearly inspired by This Is Spinal Tap, the charm behind their comedy lies in the seeming sincerity of their performances combining with sometimes irreverent and cutting but always astute observations. Add in the fact that their whimsical wit and manic stylings always go down a storm live, and you begin to get see how the only way is up for one of Ireland's own.
If you've any doubt about their ability (and you were seemingly under a rock when their video for RTÉ's Republic of Telly went viral last year) simply check out their song 'Rugby' below. In fact, check out any of their videos, and consider yourself a new fan.
Get down there if you can.
Dead Cat Bounce present Howl of the She-Leopard for one night only w/ Special Guest Damian Clarke, February 24th at 8.30pm in Vicar Street, Dublin. Tickets from €20 available from ticketmaster.ie.
